Nauticus Robotics Inc., trading under NASDAQ as KITT, is a trailblazer in oceanic robotics, blending advanced robotics with marine technology. This company is reshaping underwater exploration, marine research, and offshore operations with its innovative products. It was founded in 2021 and it is led by CEO and Co=Founder Nicolaus Adam Radford and Co=Founder Reginald Bruce Berka.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs): The Aquanaut

A key offering from Nauticus is the Aquanaut, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). These unmanned, robotic submarines are programmed for diverse underwater tasks. AUVs are critical for deep-sea exploration, offering safer alternatives to human divers in hazardous environments. They are employed in oceanographic research, pipeline inspection, and underwater mapping, utilizing technologies like sonar and machine learning for autonomous navigation.

    Surface Robots: The Hydronaut

Complementing AUVs, Nauticus’ Hydronaut represents its foray into surface robotics. These robots operate on the ocean’s surface, performing tasks like environmental monitoring and data collection, and potentially aiding in rescue operations. They have the edge over human-operated vessels in terms of covering vast ocean areas efficiently and can continuously gather data over extended periods.

    Robotic Arms: The Olympic Arm

The Olympic Arm by Nauticus Robotics is a state-of-the-art subsea tool that combines all-electric power with advanced intelligence. It’s a highly versatile tool that rivals the power of traditional work-class hydraulic manipulators but offers superior maneuverability. The Olympic Arm stands out for its electricity-based operation, eliminating the need for hydraulic parts, which enhances its reliability and reduces maintenance.

Key features of the Olympic Arm include

    • Electric Power: As the first work-class electric subsea manipulator, it marks a significant advancement in underwater robotics, offering a clean and efficient alternative to hydraulic systems
    • Enhanced Maneuverability: Equipped with rotary actuators, the Olympic Arm operates with a greater range of motion and dexterity, crucial for precise operations underwater
    • Absolute Position Sensing and Direct Cartesian Control: These features offer heightened locational awareness and precise control, with haptic feedback providing a tangible sense of contact and motion range during operations.
    • Subsea Tool Changing: This allows for versatile operation, enabling the arm to switch between tools like grippers, cleaners, and torque tools without the need to resurface.
    • Onboard Safety: The Azimov onboard safety system ensures safe operation around people and assets.

Moreover, with the Supervised Autonomy package, the Olympic Arm gains additional capabilities:

    • Environmental Perception: It can digitally map its surroundings to identify items, obstacles, and hazards.
    • Autonomous Behavior with Checks: This feature allows for semi-autonomous functionality with essential human oversight to mitigate risks.
    • Tetherless Operation: The arm can be commanded wirelessly, even in challenging conditions, using a sea-and-surface network.

    Supporting Tools: ToolKITT

ToolKITT, offered by Nauticus Robotics, is an advanced suite of control software designed to enhance the functionality and versatility of their robotic solutions. Powered by AI and machine learning, it acts as the central intelligence for each unit in a fleet of subsea robots, enabling efficient management and operation. Key features of ToolKITT include:

    1. Helmsman: An onboard control system present on all Nauticus robotics platforms, Helmsman interprets and executes remote instructions. It’s adept at adapting its approach when necessary, ensuring smooth operation under varying conditions.
    2. Commander: This application facilitates both direct control and supervised autonomy of robotic units. Commander transmits master control inputs and autonomous mission directives, playing a pivotal role in managing operations.
    3. Wayfinder: Employing sensor-enabled mapping and software modeling, Wayfinder provides comprehensive environmental awareness for the robotics platforms. This feature is crucial for safe and efficient navigation in diverse underwater terrains.
    4. Loggerhead: Focused on data collection, Loggerhead captures and stores vital information required for customer use or diagnostics, ensuring a comprehensive record of operations and environmental data.

Advancements in Efficiency, Safety, and Sustainability

Nauticus Robotics is driving efficiency by enabling operations to leave behind large vessels and offshore crews. Safety is enhanced by reducing the need for human divers and topside personnel. Sustainability is a key focus, with the company utilizing cleaner, more efficient solutions and aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of oceanic operations.

    Impact on Various Industries

Nauticus Robotics’ products find applications across multiple sectors, including renewables, aquaculture, port security, defense, offshore data centers, telecom, oil and gas, subsea mining, and oceanographic science missions. This diverse applicability underscores the significance of their innovations in the ocean economy, which is a burgeoning $2.5 trillion per year market.

    The Team Behind the Innovation

The company’s success is powered by a world-class team with extensive experience in robotics, engineering, industrial automation, and green technology. This expertise is the driving force behind Nauticus’ innovative contributions to the field of oceanic robotics.

    Financial Analysis

    Track all markets on TradingView

The financial snapshot of Nauticus Robotics Inc. shows a company with a market capitalization of $33.914 million, indicating its size in terms of stock market value. However, it’s operating at a loss, with a net income of -$28.261 million and a basic earnings per share (EPS) of -$0.3135, pointing to current unprofitability. The lack of a dividend yield and a Price to Earnings (P/E) ratio suggests that the company is not yet returning profits to shareholders and may not have positive earnings at present.

With 12.238 million shares floating, the liquidity of the stock is moderate, and a beta of 0.35 indicates lower volatility compared to the overall market. Founded in 2021, it’s a relatively new entrant in the industrial machinery sector, with a modest-sized workforce of ~93 employees. The negative net income could be attributed to high research and development costs, common in the technology and robotics sector, especially for startups focusing on growth and market penetration.
